Students Demand EMU Administration Return to the Negotiation Table (7 Sept 2006)

Students rallied outside administration headquarters, Welch Hall, bullhorn in hand, demanding that the EMU administration return to the negotiating table and end the faculty strike at EMU. The administration walked out on negotiations 10:00 PM Tuesday evening without responding to a counterproposal offered by the AAUP.

Exclaiming to the administrators “We are here! Where are you?” and “We Support the Faculty” students demanded that the administration return to the negotiating table despite its threat to end the contract talks indefinitely. Student rallies took place at yesterday evening at 4:30 PM and today at 11:30 AM. Another rally is scheduled for 4:00 PM this afternoon.

With more than 90% of faculty on the picket lines rather than in the classrooms, the university is at a standstill until the contract talks resume.
